So I have been asked why I decided to start a travel and lifestyle blog. Its a good question. As far back as I can remember I have longed for more adventure and seeing the world. As I got older I get itchy to move or to go on a trip when I am in one place for too long. I remember loving to read maps and navigate on our family vacations. It seems like the travel bug bit me very early on.
One of the first things I remember as a child is the day I “ran away from home”. I was only 5 and packed up my little red suitcase. I wasn’t running away from home, I was running toward adventure and was headed to live with my best friend for a while. We lived in the country, the last house before a field of wild berries and trees. Across the street was my favorite hideaway..the forest where I could pretend to be anything and anywhere.
I waited quietly for my older sister to leave on the bus and then snuck out of the house. I headed out down the street in the opposite direction. I was confident I knew how to get where I wanted to go. The thing I didn’t know, was that the school bus turned around and came back the other way. There I was still in my pajamas carrying my little red suitcase and trying to hide behind a bush so I don’t get caught. The bus pulled to a stop and out came my sister and the bus driver. I was caught.!
I wasn’t allowed to go to school which was the worst punishment I could imagine. I loved school. Okay so maybe I was a wierd kid even then. But trying to explain that i wasn;t running away, I just wanted to try something else fell on deaf ears. Its funny how you remember events years later and can laugh about it. But it also explains to me why my inner voice is always calling out to me to see what else is out there. Some people are just born to travel and experience new things.
So back to why I started this blog, hopefully to share my love of all things travel and lifestyle. I hope you will enjoy my stories and adventures and maybe tell me some of yours.
One day I will have to tell you about my childhood adventures from the country and when I ran away form school for a “long” adventure home.
Can’t wait to hear about your adventures… nice to know I’m not the only one who longed for more adventures as a child.
oh, I spent hours at a time in the woods and fields near our house playing soldier and fighting off bad guys. I wasn’t afraid of anything when I was a little kid.
When I was in Kindergarten I ran away from school, which was in a small farm town about 5 miles from our house. I was on a mission because I had been told by an older kid my brother was sick and needed me. So off I went on what seemed like a giant adventure. The school nurse finally found me, 2 miles from the school.
Joe I’m thinking there may be a lot of stories like ours out there. Life is an adventure. Enjoy every day.
